Summer Sundays: Fun Plays

The play’s the thing! And on June 26 it’s called “Peter the Impetuous.”

This summer, back by popular demand,  children ages Pre-K through 3rd grade will be able to enjoy Bible story plays put on by our older students. The younger children will begin Sunday mornings in worship and after the children’s time will be dismissed to enjoy a performance by our older students. If you are in 4th grade and up and are interested in acting in these plays, come to Room 204/205 at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings before the 10 AM worship service.

Thanks to Richard Gordon, Playwright, and to Andrew Hayes and Ian Griffiths, in the Director’s Chair.

On July 3, hear and see “The Further Adventures of David.” On July 10, families will attend the ASP service. Next up — “The 40th Lash” on July 17 and “Adam and Eve” on July 24.

Children in Pre-K through 3rd grade — and older children who aren’t thespians that day — are invited to go to Room 204 after the Children’s Sermon to watch the play and have refreshments, apple juice and vanilla wafers. (Parents please pick up your young child after church. Fourth graders and up may join you in the Sanford Davis Room for coffee hour.)

Trip to Duke Farms?

You’re invited for a day at Duke Farms  in Hillsborough on Saturday, April 23 starting at 11:30 am. duke farmsThe day will include a visit to the Orientation Center, talk with Michael Catania, Executive Director of Duke Farms, and afternoon walk around the beautiful historic site with its nature trails and variety of habitats. There is a café to buy food, but feel free to bring a snack so we can stop for a picnic on the grounds. Anger: Healthily Spiritual?

How can anger be spiritually healthy? On Sunday, January 10 at 9:30 and 11, with Ephesians 4: 26-31 as her text, Rev. Jana Purkis-Brash continues the sermon series “A Healthy Spirituality: Inside Out,” referencing the Pixar movie. Her texts will be Ephesians 4: 26-31 and Mark 3:1-5. The Youth Choir, directed by Tom Shelton, will sing “Sanctuary” and “Gift of Love” at the 9:30 service, and Hyosang Park will direct the Chancel Choir in “Inscription” by Z.R. Stroope. Catherine Williams will speak to the children at Children’s Time. All are welcome! Join us for coffee and finger food after each service.

Advent Night: ‘Joy to the World’

Be sure to join us for our annual Advent Night celebration on Sunday, December 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. It will be a joy filled evening as we begin our preparation
for the arrival of the Christ Child. We will begin with our Christmas Pageant at 4:00 PM, titled Joy to the World, where we will hear and see the Christmas Story as told by our Sunday School and Children’s Choir. Tom Shelton has been hard at work rehearsing with our elementary school choirs and Sunday School children. It will be a wonderful way to kick off the Advent Season.

Following the pageant, join us for a time of dinner and crafts. From 5:15 – 6:25 there will be 5 craft stations set up for crafters of all ages. Kids, make a secret craft for your parents with help from our confirmation class. Everyone is welcome to decorate a gingerbread
cookie as well! Need a break from crafting? Come on downstairs to the Fellowship Hall for a good old fashioned potluck dinner. Don’t forget to bring something to share!

Be sure you are finished with your craft by 6:30 because we will conclude the evening with carol singing and dessert led by Karen Zumbrunn. Bring your favorite dessert to share.

We hope you will join us for this joy-filled evening. See you on the 6th!

UMYF: Family Thanksgiving

Hi All!

Don’t forget – our Family Thanksgiving Celebration is November 22 from 4-6PMfor all families with children and youth from Pre-K to 12th Grade.

We will join together to feast, worship, and do a mission project. We are asking you to bring the following:

  • Your family’s favorite Thanksgiving side dish for our potluck dinner. We will provide the Turkey!
  • Personal hygiene products for our mission project for Threads of Hope: shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant. Since we will be assembling kits for families, we also want to collect things like hair elastics, headbands, barrettes, etc.

We will also have a short, interactive worship service with prayer stations for all ages around the thanksgiving theme. It will be a wonderful night. If you could RSVP to me with what you are bringing and how many people, I would appreciate it.

This will be our event for UMYF on the 22nd, and Youth Choir will meet AFTER from 6-7PM. Please mark your calendars appropriately!

Part-time Temp Job: Youth Ministries

Princeton United Methodist Church seeks to hire a part-time, temporary Assistant Director to support youth ministries and programs.   Assists Associate Pastor of Children and Youth Ministries and works collaboratively with staff, parents, volunteers and congregation to insure the spiritual growth and discipleship of youth.   Helps with planning and leading Sunday evening youth program as well as youth participation in worship, mission and overall life of the church.  Leads youth program and provides continuity while Associate Pastor is on leave.  Experience in Christian Youth Ministries required.   Degree in ministry or in process desirable. On Sunday September 13 at 11 a.m. bring your lawn chair, we will be worshiping outside – in the church that God created. Gathering at Mercer Park East we will sing, and pray and revel in the natural beauty that will surround us. “The verdant green of the grass and trees will be our walls and floor,” says Scott Sherrill, pastoral assistant. “The clear blue of the sky will be our ceiling. The chorus of birds will accompany our hymns.”

Following the service at the park we will have our church community picnic. Everyone is welcome. Please bring your favorite outdoor game to enjoy. If your last name begins with A-Q bring a salad or side dish. If your last name begins with R-Z bring a dessert. This is an opportunity to enjoy the company of friends, to marvel in the beauty of God’s creation, and to celebrate the beginning of our new congregational cycle.

DIRECTIONS: From the church, take Washington Road to the Route 1 traffic circle and continue on Route 571 (Princeton Hightstown Road) for about 2.5 miles. After the high school, turn right on South Mill Road and continue for a little over 3 miles. (South Mill becomes New Edinburg Road and then Edinburg Dutch Neck Road.) Back to VBS — and back to school!

Bring school supplies — and friends — to Vacation Bible School! Register now, and it starts with a family meal on Tuesday, August 11, at 5:30 p.m. Questions? Kaleigh@princetonumc.org,

The school supplies will be used for the VBS mission project. There are children in our community who will struggle to come to school with everything they need to be part of the fun! Try to bring the supplies to the office — or in the bin by the nursery — before Wednesday morning, but they will be welcome any time.
